Sweeping Plains of Sound presents the world premiere of Grasslands Suite, an immersive musical evocation of the Victorian Volcanic Plains Grasslands' ecology. Composed by Kate Tempany, the ten-movement work features Hindustani sarod and tabla alongside French horn, solo cello, classical strings, clarinet, piano, narration by Dr Adrian Marshall, and a grasslands ecologist. Each movement explores aspects from geological deep time to fauna and flora, blending improvisations with contemporary techniques for immersive soundscapes. The performance takes place on 21 May 2026 from 7:00 PM to 8:15 PM at Hanson Dyer Hall in Southbank, offering a rare chance to experience this biodiverse ecosystem through music.
