The First Light Opening Breakfast marks the start of SCHWF 2026 with a shared continental breakfast under the morning hinterland sky, featuring First Nations storytelling and music. Jinibara Elder Aunty Zeitha Jalamala delivers a Welcome to Country and shares stories of the land, while acclaimed poet Maria van Neerven presents readings and engages in conversation with local arts leader Claire Booth on themes of Country, language, kin, memory, resilience, and community. A special musical performance replaces the original participation of Debra Dank. Scheduled for May 2, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM at the Yarning Circle in Maleny Neighbourhood Centre, this single-day event fosters respectful acknowledgment of First Nations connections. Tickets are available for $15.
