Realism in Feminist Media Making

This single-day screening and conversation event on April 9, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Brunswick Mechanics Institute features three films exploring feminist activist media: WE CARE (1990) by WAVE, Media as Process (2025) by Alex Martinis Roe with Alexandra Juhasz, and Two Laws (1982) by Borroloola Tribal Council. The films span decades and contexts, from the AIDS crisis to First Nations law, highlighting realist documentary practices for political transformation. Alexandra Juhasz and Alex Martinis Roe will discuss their shared genealogy in feminist media studies. Part of Juhasz’s Stuart Black Fellowship at the Victorian College of the Arts, the event offers free general admission or a $5 supporter ticket for inclusive access.
