SPARK 2026 is a recurring outdoor cinematic screening celebrating the unique spirit of Lightning Ridge opal fields, screening every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from April 4 to October 4, 2026, at 6:30pm-7:30pm AEST under the stars at AOC Black Opal Heritage Shed. Created by cinematographer Martin Fox, sound artist Vic McEwan, local artists, and residents, it showcases the people, land, opal mining heritage, and life in Yuwaalaraay country. This community arts initiative supports the Australian Opal Centre's cultural and scientific programs. Attendees can arrive early to explore the free Black Opal Heritage Shed exhibition on opal mining innovations, with indoor screenings in rain. Family tickets and child pricing make it accessible, with seating, fire bins, and a vast night sky provided.
